Last night’s class was good; we had a decent turnout and I managed to fit in half an hour of my own training before Mr Plant asked me to help the two most junior students with their patterns. I’ve found that teaching patterns has helped me to remember them in new ways now too, as there certainly isn’t a ‘one size fits all’ way to teach. I’ve described and explained the patterns in so many different ways to help students understand them. As a result I’ve realised there are many aspects to each pattern, and so many ways to remember the sequences and the order of moves.
Today I have my nose firmly in the GTI Handbook as I am revising the colour belt theory and learning the pattern meanings behind my three new Black Belt patterns: Po Eun, Gae Baek and Kwang-Ye. Must get back to it…
